PACIFIC OCEAN - Today a group of separatists living on a man-made island declared themselves an independent country. The group, nicknamed the "CyberRepublicans", cited multiple grievances against many of the world's developed nations as their reasons for founding their own, which they dubbed the "CyberRepublic." The group claims that their island resides in international territory, so they have every right to establish a nation there.
Island Administrator Lance Locke said at a press conference earlier today the new nation has big plans. "We want to create a place where people from all around the will flock to because of its values. We want to have the most efficient, smartest system of government the world has ever seen," Locke said. He went on to say, "ultimately, we want to be what the United States was meant to be."
International reaction to the announcement was mixed. White House Press Secretary Ivanca Trump said of the declaration, "we are investigating the legality and authenticity of it. Right now, our prime concern is how many jobs will leave the US because of this. " British Prime Minister Nigel Farage said, "We will fully support these separatists in their endeavor. As we now see ourselves in our own struggle with a super-national authority, the European Union, we need to be wary of concentrated power." Chinese President Xi Jinping warned, "they better not get too close. People like this, who seek liberty and freedom from oppression, can be very dangerous." Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed his sentiments in a statement, claiming "they have no right to be there" and they "better not try flying any jetliners over Mother Russia."
